Silk Road - Thai Bistro at BGC, Taguig

It's no secret I have a love affair with Thai cuisine. I've been to countless 'hole in the wall' restaurants just to have a taste of authentic Thai food.

So it's a good news when another Thai resto opened in my work area at The Fort, BGC, Taguig. Even when Silk Road has not opened yet, I already informed my housemate that I would love to try their food. So imagine how delighted I was when I received an invitation for a blogger food night. Yey!

Note: Food photography using my S4. Eh tamad lang magdala ng dslr na mabigat. ^_^

Cecil Chang, the owner of the restaurant, made sure we felt welcome and made an effort to discuss why there could be no authentic Pad Thai here in Manila. Close to authentic, yes, but not 100% authentic. I like the honesty and humility, specially from someone who studied Thai cooking for years. Come on, she's the queen of Thai cuisine, and she really deserves it.

Anyway, upon arrival of the drink, the food never stopped coming!

Pandan Milk Tea and Thai Milk Tea
it's sooo good!

Crispy catfish is my favorite appetizer, but not until I had a taste of this Thai Ravioli. This is awesome!

Thai Ravioli
sesame beef and shitake mushroom wrapped in freshly made steamed rice paper
my newest favorite Thai food!

Son-in-Law Eggs
traditional dish being cooked by Thai mothers for their soon-to-be-son-in-laws. it is slightly deep-fried eggs drizzled with a sweet sauce.

Salmon Cone
salmon cubes infused with lemongrass, lime and herbs and filled in ice cream cones.
salmon never goes wrong. =)

So much for the appetizer, next comes the main entrees.
Without being biased, I can honestly say Silk Road's Pad Thai is the best I've had in the Philippines. It's the closest thing to those pad thais in the streets of Bangkok!

 Chicken Basil
minced chicken, string beans, basil and fried egg

Lamb Shank Massaman
delicately cooked for 8 hours and served with crispy noodles and sweet potato chips and shallots

 Crispy Tilapia with Tamarind Puree
 i love this!

Siamese Pork Ribs
grilled cinnamon caramel pork. super like as well!

And for dessert, nothing could be more heavenly than this Mango Sticky Rice.

heavenly as expected ♥

And of course, wines are available to compliment these great food. They have an extensive collection of wines.

Overall, I liked it! Honestly I went back to Silk Road just 2 weeks after and I dragged my friends along. They agreed how amazing the Thai Ravioli, Pad Thai, and Sticky Rice with Mango are.

thank you Silk Road for satisfying my cravings! ♥
i will definitely come back (again) and recommend this to my friends

Azuthai - Love for Thai

One of the things I wished for my birthday is to eat at Azuthai. Ewan ko ba, nagbuild up na talaga yung love affair ko for Thai food. Here goes:

Located in the Milkyway Building on Arnaiz Avenue, Makati; Azuthai serves home-style Thai cuisine prepared by Chefs Tip and Bow from Phuket, Thailand following their own family recipes.

a lunch date at Azuthai

The staffs warmly welcomed us. The place looks like more of a hotel ambiance. A bit dark lang inside and even with the chandelier, i think kulang pa dun yung source of light for taking photos. I chose to stay near the window glasses nalang. Ganun kahalaga ang lightning sa photos. Ü

Of all the Thai food I've tasted, this really is my favorite.

Yam Pla Duk Foo
Crispy Catfish Salad - green mango, peanuts, mint, lime dressing

Until now, Im still bragging the brilliance of this combination. Ang sarap! But Benjarong of Dusit's version is yummier. Ibang level na yung Dusit's Benjarong kasi it's originally a Thai Hotel na may branch sa Makati. The chefs there are native Thai. So for Azuthai's version, panalo na din to.

Pad Thai
Thai Style Fried Noodles

After trying out many versions, this is time I realized I dont like my Pad Thai with egg. Nonetheless, Azuthai's version has a rich taste. But again, it fall short of Benjarong's version. Ibang level yung sarap dun.

But this Azuthai dish really stands out:

Massaman Gaeh
Massaman Lamb Curry with Shallots, Potatoes, Peanuts

After every bite, I cant help myself but say: sobrang sarap nito! The lamb is super soft, it melts in your mouth. The sauce is thick. Spiciness comes perfect. This dish is very flavorful. A winner!

And a good thing to end this lunch is to try out Thai's local beer.
Drinking beer at lunchtime after my shift- not a very wise idea.. Ü

Singha - local Thai beer

Tastes like SMB's pilsen. I think it's good, sanay lang siguro yung taste buds ko sa SanMig Light.

Overall, I enjoyed this Azuthai experience. Bit expensive for a weekend lunch. Im just lucky this meal came free!

Muang Thai Cravings

Been craving for some Thai food again and so I together with blogger Antonio and his girlfriend Teresa, met up for some authentic Thai restaurant outside the malls last weekend. Since they have not tasted any Thai food yet, I searched for our destination and just based everything on the reviews in the net. Good luck samin kung masarap dito.

I have a date too, his name is Vincent, my point and shoot camera. I miss you Vincent! Iwan muna si Harvey, my DSLR, sa bahay.

I chose Muang Thai. It is located in Diliman QC. The closest landmark is Sulo Hotel. And since I was not expecting much in this place, I was impressed that the ambiance is good. The details inside are far more interesting than Soms and Jatujak.

These pieces perfectly introduce Thailand.

The dining area is good for friends bonding, sunday family dine out, and dating places for couples.

Since Anton and Teresa haven't tried any Thai food yet, I was the in-charge of the food we'll order. Pressure? Not really. I know exactly what I wanted to eat that night. Di uso diet! Ü

Muang Thai Menu

Crispy Catfish Salad
Serving is generous, but this is more salty than Jatujak's version. This could have been better if there are more green mango strips and nuts. But still, I and the couple who were hesitant at first to try the catfish, we all enjoyed it.

Spicy Shrimp Soup
Tom Yum is a must try for newbies! It's spiciness is just right. I like it.

Pad Thai
What's a visit to a Thai resto without eating Pad Thai. We gotta have that too. Tastes like a normal pad thai. Just right.

Muang Thai Fried Rice
Rice with the combination of beef, chicken, shrimp, squid, etc. We loved their signature fried rice! Super yummy!

Red Curry Chicken
Serving satisfies the 3 of us. Another favorite of ours. Very flavorful and tasty.

Bill: a little over P1,000 only. Tax included. No service charge.

As of this writing, Im craving again for some Thai food. Kainis!

Go and find Muang Thai in your future Thai food craving!

I had a great time with you again Vincent! ♥

A Taste of Jatujak

Since Im planning to visit Bangkok this year, Sir Lloyd and his preggy wife Grace invited me for a Thai food trip. Yey! The first time I tasted Thai Food was at Soms (the famous street treat located outside Rockwell) Hope I remembered that one right. And I conclude, Thai food is tasty yet cheap.

For our food trip, Sir lloyd suggested Jatujak. Jatujak (cha-tu-chak) is the largest weekend market in Bangkok- also a haven for bargain hunters and Thai food lovers. Interesting.

cha-tu-chak

For appetizer, Sir Lloyd picked Yam Pla Duk Foo (Crispy Catfish with Mango Salad). What?! Catfish as in Hito? Edible ba yun? He said it doesn't llok like a catfish so I agreed. But at the back of my mind I wanna say "Iba nalang kaya, Fish are friends, not food, right?" Just because Im beginning to imagine how a hito looks like. Ü

Yam Pla Duk Foo (Crispy Catfish with Mango Salad)

This dish impressed me so much. The combination of catfish, mango, and nuts is brilliant. Aylavet! ♥

After 5 mins, Pad Thai is served. Everybody knows a Pad Thai so no need to elaborate on this one.

Pad Thai

Can't compare because I cant barely remember the taste of Soms version. But this Pad Thai tastes more authentic according to the couple. Serves 2-3.

After enjoying Pad Thai, Kao Kluk Gapi (Thai's version of Bagoong Rice) and Kaeng Nua (Red Curry Beef) are served.

Kao Kluk Gapi (Bagoong Rice)

Kaeng Nua (Red Curry Beef)

Does not taste like our Pinoy Bagoong rice, theirs is not salty. And as expected, Red Curry Beef is tasty.

I like this Jatujak experience, specially the Catfish salad. Looking forward to taste these in Thailand.

Oopps, time for dessert! This time I chose Sebastian's Ice Cream studio. Been hearing good reviews about this ice cream station so this is a must try.

Sebastian's Ice Cream Studio

the flavors of Sebastian's

All of us wanted the Macadamia White. One big scoop costs P95. This is more sulit (and tasty and creamy) compared to Dolce- anliit ng serving.

Macadamia White

Imagine a white chocolate bar that is melted and turned into an icecream. I've never tasted an icecream this creamy. Also garnished with roasted macadamia nuts. Perfect!

I want to have a good body, but not as much as I want dessert. - Jason Love

We can't agree more! Ü
