Profession VS Passion: Travel Bloggers' Regular Jobs

Back in 2009 when I first chanced upon travel blogs, I cant help but wonder what could be the day jobs of these travel bloggers. Or do they even have a regular job at all? If yes, then what are their jobs? And how can they afford to travel without being fired by their bosses due to excessive leaves? ^_^

Admit it, you've always been curious too.
So here it is - a compilation of some of the travel bloggers' day jobs.

Aren't you glad to know that most of them struggle to fix their schedules too? ^_^
See, now who says these people have lots of extra time for traveling? In reality, they dont but they make time for it. Now stop wishing you have the time, the money (--insert excuses here--) to travel. If these people can make it happen, of course you can make it too!

Chyng | Former Virus and Anti-Virus Analyst
obviously, i got inspired by my previous job!

Thanks for the mention. This is an interesting read and one that is close to my heart. I hope more of us get to pursue what we're passionate about. I'm always inspired by this quote:

"Don't ask yourself what the world needs. Ask yourself what makes you come alive and then go do that. Because what the world needs is people who have come alive." Howard Thurman

Training sustains me but Travel makes me come alive.

hi chyng! ako i've been a copyeditor for 8 years, and counting. i agree, no excuses: if you want to travel, you can and you will find a way.

i'm blessed to have a flexible job that caters to my love of travel! :)

kg said...

you know what i dream of? na sana ipadala naman ako ng kumanya namin sa ibang bansa. para naman maranasan ko ang all-expense paid na bakasyon! ahehe!

darwin said...

I remember last year, Im working as a Planetarium Control Operator ( yeah, I control the universe, hahaha!)kahit one day lang ang off ko, nakagala ako ng mahaba, kaso nagsakit sakitan ko, ayun pagbalik ko, i need a permit naCBC pa ako, kmusta nmn ang dugong kinuha sakin, kahit wala akong sakit..hahaha!

pero VL and SL really helped me. Then now I decided to quit my job and apply for a work na TWO days na ang restday with mas mataas na sweldo, kaya ngayon Im working as an exhibit engineer medyo napapadalas na ang travel ko..hahaha! thanks rin sa mga nag-influence sakin! kayong mga Trvel Bloggers.

cheers!

galing nila noh? Kahit sobrang busy, nakakapag travel at update ng kanilang travel series. inspiring.

Bat hindi mo sinali sarili mo :-)

Manila Girl said...

Haha this was cool. :-) I admit, I've always been curious about this! Not just with travel bloggers but all bloggers in general, especially the "professional" ones!

Lea said...

Chyng, how are you na? There was a time na I wanted to give up. Pero I love it. Tama yong comment na with travelling, you come alive. Kaya dapat, bigyan siya ng time and dapat kasali sa budget. Or else, we will die wondering about "what ifs".. :) I wake up usually around 4-5am so it gives me time to write, which is my other passion. Wala naman akong readers, except my family. hahaha.. It's a good way to relax. Most of those you mentioned above, I read their blogs. Hope to see you all of you soon. Bisitahin niyo ang Davao kasi ang ganda dito. It's safe and walang bagyo. :)

kara said...

Nice! This was an interesting compilation. It's cool how they can balance their day jobs with travel blogging :) It really helps to have a flexible or part-time day job to pay the bills, but still have the freedom to travel in a moment's notice.

Great post! I've always wondered the exact same thing when I'm travel blog-hopping :)

Just to share, I used to work as a research analyst for an American company. I resigned a few years ago to go into business full time. Never looked back :) Traveling is now my hobby!

bridgette rebuca, teleserye writer at ABS-CBN. hehe mahirap lang sa case ko wala kaming oras at mahirap magleave. so most of the time hulaan kung kailan ako pwede makapagout of town. hindi rin nagwowork ang pagbubook in advance because as of today 3 trips na nabook na ang flight ang nakacancel bec of work. huhu. minsan may downtime naman, like sa isang week 2 times lang ang meetings etc. but this post inspired me to work around my schedule and make the most out of it.
